Meeting Place & Directions: 07:30am, McDonald’s at I-95 Georgia exit 67. Take I-95 north to exit #67 in Georgia (US17). It is approximately a 1-1.5hr drive from Jacksonville, depending on where you live. Go east, right at the exit and the McDonald’s is immediately on the left with a Shell gas station. If you run late you and want to meet us at the refuge; continue east/south on US17 and you will see signs for the refuge and “The Smallest Church in America” on your left. The refuge road is just past the church.

Bring snacks/lunch and drinks; sunscreen, bug spray, binoculars, spotting scopes, and photography gear.

Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge has over 2800 acres of salt-water marsh, grassland, and deciduous woods. We will bird from the auto route with short hikes at stops like Woody Pond. We can expect to find wintering sparrows, ducks, and maybe a few warblers. There should be a variety of waders. We will plan to stay here most of the morning before moving south towards the Altamaha Wildlife Management area. This area is 30-40 minutes south on US17 near Darien, Georgia. Join us for the morning or come late just to Altamaha. I have purchased an annual DNR group pass for the Altamaha area. If you arrive separate from the group just give them my name it is on the “All Small Group GORP” license.

Location Harris Neck NWR, 5000 Wildlife Dr NW, Townsend, GA.
