St. Augustine Road Fish Management Area is a fishing lake operated by the City of Jacksonville that is located in the San Jose area. It is accessed off of Stetson Road, off St. Augustine Road between University Blvd. W. and Emerson St. An underused spot, it is usually empty of everyone except birds. Migratory birds love the lake and surrounding woodlands. It is an eBird Hotspot where 55 species have been noted.

If there is time, we will visit nearby “bird island” off San Jose Blvd where several species of water birds nest abundantly in the spring.

Target species: Wood duck, Green Heron, Great Blue Heron, Tricolored Heron, American Coot, Pied-billed Grebe, Ring-necked Duck, Common Gallinule, Anhinga, American Kestrel, White Ibis, Loggerhead Shrike, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, and various Warblers.
