Located near the mouth of Black Creek, this shady mixed woodland has lots of canopy, thick second growth, and plenty of trails to explore. Squeezed between a cypress swamp and US-17, it’s both birdy and beautiful. A creek view trail provides excellent views of Black Creek, a lowland area, and canopy. If you are looking for songbirds, this is one of the county’s premier hotspots. This area has produced rare Short-tailed Hawk and Cerulean Warbler around this time.

Target birds: Acadian Flycatcher, Veery, Blackburnian Warbler, Hooded Warbler, and Worm-eating Warbler.

Meet at 8:00 am in the parking lot, sign in, then get some good birds. Bring your binoculars, water, insect repellent, and snacks. There is a restroom that is fairly well maintained with a drinking fountain.

COVID-19 NOTE: Masks are not mandatory per the new CDC guidelines, but for the safety of all participants and volunteers, masks and social distancing are strongly recommended. Please, no sharing of binoculars or scopes. Please do not attend if you have tested positive for COVID-19 or experienced any of the following symptoms within the last 14 days:
