This year Duval Audubon is leading monthly walks for novice birders at the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve. Of course experienced birders are welcome too!

We might see some late-migrating Warblers, Vireos and possibly Painted Buntings. The walking is easy: we will follow the Willie Brown trail through maritime hammock to an observation deck overlooking Round Pond marsh and tidal creeks in the area. We may also see wading birds such as Great Egrets, Great Blue Herons, and possibly Roseate Spoonbills. This is a great field trip for beginning birders as well as long timers.

Meet and sign in at Fort Caroline Visitor Center, then we will carpool to Theodore Roosevelt Area as parking there is very limited. Please notify the rangers if you need to borrow binoculars.

Directions to Theodore Roosevelt Area from Fort Caroline: turn right onto Fort Caroline Road from the Fort Caroline entrance, then turn left on Mount Pleasant Rd. Stay on Mount Pleasant for about 1 mile, then look for the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt Area on your left. Turn left onto the dirt road and follow it to the parking lot which will be on the left hand side. No fee.

Restroom facilities at Theodore Roosevelt are often unavailable (locked), but restrooms are available at the Fort Caroline Visitor Center.

Location meet at Fort Caroline National Memorial Visitor Center at 12713 Fort Caroline Road, Jacksonville, FL.
